J.P. Therrien

Creation Therrien was born from my love for nature, and my admiration for the trees.

I have always had a connection with the forest from my upbringing in northern Quebec.  I moved from Quebec to the jungles of Costa Rica, where I learned traditional techniques of working with handtools and crafted my first live edge table, twenty years ago.  The simple nature of working slabs made me realize the impact my woodwork can have on nature from taking tree down to using green energy, to sourcing appropriately and responsibly.

Most of my pieces are custom designed in partnership with my clients, to allow everyone to have an original piece of art in their home that is made just to their specifications. I am grateful for the challenges presented by each piece, and the opportunity to be creative every day.  If you don't see exactly what you want on the site, don't worry!  Nearly every piece is made to order -- please just drop us a note to talk about what you need.

We source our wood within a close network of small businesses and families who invest in salvaged and reclaimed lumber, always keeping in mind our responsibility as makers to make as little waste as possible. We have none, we reuse all of our wood in one way or another.

Michelle Therrien

From inventory to keeping in touch with clients, Michelle is always the fire burning behind the scenes.  It is thanks to her hard work and dedication to customer satisfaction and detail that I am able to create every day.  She also directs multiple international public health projects to bring better healthcare to women and young people around the world.  Together we also created Uplift Health, which allows HIV+ young people in Haiti to access educational resources, she is the executive director of HERHealthEQ and a consultant to the international Red Cross.

Josh  Barber

Josh has joined the team not long ago as my apprentice.  A friend for many years, Josh and I were partners on ambulances in upstate New York when I worked primarily as an EMT. From his farm in Massachusetts he now builds benches and tables building his skills when he's not taking care of the kids and the cows .  Josh is a firefighter and a paramedic with many lifesaving awards and we are blessed to have him on board.

Now based in the Gowanus in Brooklyn, we work primarily in the back of our open retail showroom where you can come visit and see our work.  I create all of our custom pieces myself to ensure that you receive a high quality piece made from carefully selected and prepared wood.  I apply my philosophy of saving trees by making them into tables and other curious pieces.
